Family Story and Situation: Kiarra is a single mother doing her best to care for her two children after a very difficult year. She lost her job last November and became severely anemic, which affected her ability to function day to day. Although she has recovered, it has been nearly impossible to find a job that works within the narrow windows she has available — her children attend different schools and require different schedules.
To keep the household afloat, she has been using their disability funds, but rising bills and reduced food stamps have created a financial crisis. The family’s food assistance was cut by more than $200 in October, leaving them unable to cover groceries for the month. Because of that, Kiarra has been forced to use rent money just to feed her children. She is now short on rent and deeply worried about how she will manage both housing and Christmas.
Despite everything, she is actively looking for work and trying to stabilize her home, but the weight of “choosing between priorities” has become overwhelming. She simply wants to give her children warmth, dignity, and a joyful Christmas.
